Bei einem meiner ersten Ausflüge als Bergführer hatte sich mir eine kleine Gruppe anvertraut, die von einem Mann von beachtlicher Statur geführt wurde.
Mit einer einfachen Reepschnur angebunden, ist er prompt losgegangen aber nach wenigen Schritten wie versteinert stehen geblieben.
Nach mehreren Versuchen, angespornt vom olympischen Jubelgeschrei von Dutzenden von Kletterern, die sich inzwischen am Start ansammelt hatten, gelang es ihm schließlich, den Schlüsselpunkt zu überwinden,
Meine Kunden, die inzwischen beeindruckt und verängstigt waren, wollten fast die Begehung dieses Klettersteigs aufgeben, beruhigten sich dann aber wieder und hatten schlussendlich größte Freude an diesem tollen Aufstieg.
Die Via Ferrata Tomaselli gilt als einer der schwierigsten und überwältigendsten Klettersteige des gesamten Dolomitenraums. Sie führt auf einen der beeindruckendsten Gipfel der Region hinauf: Cima Fanis Sud, die südliche Fanesspitze.
Diese Via Ferrata wird als einer der schönsten ausgestatteten Klettersteige der Dolomiten bezeichnet und der Panoramablick auf die Sellagruppe, auf die Marmolata, den Civetta, die Tofana di Rozes und Cime di Fanis ist fantastisch.
Der Tomaselli-Klettersteig ist anspruchsvoll, stark ausgesetzt und sehr technisch, jedoch bestens ausgestattet.
Der Zustieg und der erste Teil der Route erinnern daran, dass die Frontlinie des Ersten Weltkriegs auch auf diesem Berg verlief.
Die Schlüsselstelle befindet sich gleich am Anfang des Klettersteigs, an der überhängenden Querung mit glatter Felsbeschaffenheit.
Einst war diese Passage sehr gefürchtet. Dank der modernen Kletterschuhe und einer aktualisierten Anordnung des Drahtseils und der Haken ist sie nun – ohne Beeinträchtigung der Faszination dieser Route – sicherer gemacht worden.
Auch der Abstieg erfolgt auf einem Klettersteig und somit ist die Route aus technischer Sicht komplett und anspruchsvoll.
Die an der Bergstation der Seilbahn gelegene Lagazuoi-Hütte bietet sich für eine erfrischende Einkehr an.
Anfahrt Am Falzarego-Pass, den man bequem von Cortina d’Ampezzo, Arabba oder Alta Badia mit eigenem Fahrzeug oder mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln erreicht, fährt man mit der Lagazuoi-Seilbahn bis zur Bergstation.
Zustieg Von der Bergstation führt ein Weg bergab zum Bergjoch Forcella Lagazuoi und von dort aus weiter bis zur Abzweigung des Wanderwegs Nr. 20b. Auf diesem quert man unter dem Nordwestgrat des Großen Lagazuoi und steigt dann zum Bergjoch Forcella Granda auf, wo sich der Einstieg des gesicherten Klettersteigs befindet..Man kann die Lagazuoi-Scharte vom Falzarego-Pass aus auch zu Fuß auf dem Wanderweg Nr. 402-401 in etwa 1,5 Std erreichen.
Aufstieg Schon ein paar Meter nach Beginn des Steigs stößt man auf einen der heikelsten Punkte, eine anspruchsvolle überhängende Querung nach links. Daraufhin steigt man über senkrechte und ausgesetzte Wände bis zum Mittelteil der Wand auf, von wo aus es einem Pfad weitergeht. Der letzte Abschnitt führt über eine lange Verschneidung und einige senkrechte,stark ausgesetzte rauhe Felsplatten zum Gipfel.
Rückweg Der Abstieg erfolgt mit fixen Drahtseilen über eine zwar noch steile aber doch einfachere Streckenführung auf der Nordostwand bis zum Joch Selletta Fanis. Weiter geht es dann über eine Geröllhalde bis zum Weg, der zu den Bergjochs Forcella Gasser Depot und Forcella Travenanzes führt. Von hier aus erreicht man auf dem Weg Nr. 402 wieder den Falzarego-Pass.
