The 2008 constructed Ferrata degli Alpini is spectacular and has quickly become a classic of the Cortina area.
It winds uphill on the South face of the Piramide Col dei Bos and is very well protected with thick metal roping and innovative anti-fall cones as well as pitons.
The via ferrata Col dei Bos is one of the four winter via ferrata routes in Cortina d'Ampezzo!

Access
From Cortina d'Ampezzo , just 1,5 km below the top of Falzarego pass, stop at Ristorante da Strobel (2060 m) on the right side of the road. The initial path begins just behind Strobel's big car park.
Approach
A wooden sign „Ferrata degli Alpini“ indicates the start of the walk-in. A good track passes through the remains of an Italian Field Hospital from the Great War and leads to a much wider path which runs along the base of the face of Torre Piccola di Falzarego. Follow this right, crossing a gully (which will later betaken to descend).
From the first rocks of Col dei Bos the start of the ferrata is easily reached (2195 m).
Ascent
This ferrata offers a medium-grade climb, in places vertical and unsheltered, in places along ledges and traverses, until it reaches the grass near the summit and the cross on the Col dei Bos peak (2559 m). From here you are rewarded by a 360° panorama of the greatest Dolomite peaks.
Return
Follow the path on the exposed ledge, which in a few minutes leads to the saddle between Col dei Bos and the Falzarego Towers. Than descend the steep scree gully which comes out near the base of the ferrata.
More easily, walk up the col above the Falzarego Towers and reach Forcella Travenanzes. From here follow path no. 402 to descend towards the Falzarego pass. A turning to the left, leads back to the car park of Ristorante da Strobel.
