Lagazuoi Cairn Festival 2019

Contest for the construction of cairns
from 13th to 28th July 2019

Since prehistoric times, all over the world artistically stacked stones have been rising up towards the sky by sheer virtue of their weight and the pull of gravity and fascinate with their mythological, mystical, commemorative, esoteric aura.
In Western culture, the cairns mainly mark impervious mountain paths but also represent the connection with a place and the desire to return there.
The Lagazuoi Cairn Festival is an open-air contest for erecting cairns along the pathway leading from Refuge Lagazuoi to the peak of Mount Lagazuoi at Cortina d’Ampezzo.
There each participant can create his ephemeral work of art, set a landmark in the universe and leave behind a sign of his passage.
The Lagazuoi Cairn Festival ends with the vote of the jury and the awarding of the best creation.
