The winners of the Lagazuoi Cairn Festival 2017

The perfect combination of lightness and stability won the first edition of the Lagazuoi Cairn Festival. These artistic creations are a trace of human presence but, above all, a tribute to Mother Nature.
In the setting of the wondrous Dolomites, along the pathway leading from Lagazuoi refuge to the peak of mount Lagazuoi, numerous competitors have created works of art of a precarious and temporary nature utilizing only loose stones collected around their own workstation.
And here the competing individuals and pairs were given the opportunity to expresses all their emotive, spiritual and gravitational equilibrium.
On a sunny 16th July the entries were judged. The outstanding jury was made up entirely of people with particular links with the life of the mountains, with arts and tourism:

Treviso's representative of the Italian association of the Alpine Regiments ANA and coordinator of the restoration of the trenches in the museum of World War 1 on mount Lagazuoi

Vice-President of Cortina d'Ampezzo's branch of the Italian Alpine Association CAI
Matteo De Sandre
Sculptor and inventor of the cairns Dolometto. made of stone pine (pinus cembra)
The first prize was won by Mrs. Helen Bertozzi. She was born in Cortina but lives in Connecticut.
Her stone formation met largely the predefined criteria, namely the equilibrium of the form, the agility of the creation, the lightness of the structure, the harmony of the component elements and the stability.
The second ranked ist Mrs. Laura Bobbio from Cortina, the third ranked are Davide Bressan from Martellago and Giacomo Alessandri from Milan.
In addition to the jury vote, now those visiting the Lagazuoi peak can register their preference. Furthermore people can vote at the link bestcairn.lagazuoi.it or on the social media.
The public will thus elect the cairn of the year, its authors entering the hall of fame of cairn creators
