“SILENZIOSE TRAME”: AT LAGAZUOI EXPO DOLOMITI, WOUNDS IN NATURE ARE TRANSFORMED INTO ART

From 18 July, the Lagazuoi Expo Dolomiti will host an exhibition by Silvia Canton: an artistic journey that transforms the marks left by the typographer beetle on tree bark into works of extraordinary visual intensity. A dialogue between contemporary art and scientific research that travels from Venice to the summit of Lagazuoi, conceptually connecting territories that are only seemingly distant.

There is a small insect that, in recent years, has become the symbol of one of the most profound transformations affecting the Alpine forests. It's the spruce bark beetle, a beetle that, aided by the effects of Storm Vaia and climate change, has found ideal conditions to proliferate, altering the appearance of millions of fir trees in the Dolomites. Today, that very bark, marked by the intricate tunnels left by the parasite, becomes both an artistic medium and a tool for scientific outreach in the exhibition “Silenziose Trame. The intricate tunnels of the spruce bark beetle”by artist Silvia Canton at the Lagazuoi Expo Dolomiti. Behind that bark lies not just the mark left by an insect, but a story that concerns the future of our mountains. The exhibition was created with the aim of raising public awareness about the effects of climate change and extreme events on forest ecosystems, encouraging people to look more closely at a phenomenon that directly affects the natural heritage of the Dolomites.

The exhibition is open at the Lagazuoi Expo Dolomiti from 18 July to 6 September, daily from 9:00 am to 4:40 pm.
